The Mind of a Competitor!

After 3 years and 7 stage preps, I have learned some valuable things in order to have a  “successful”  prep. Unfortunately these things took me this long to absorb and settle into.

I want to share these with you in hopes of possibly making it easier for you…or if anything, to let you know that you are not alone!

1.  You, and those close to you, are going to think you are too skinny and you all are probably right!

Keep in mind you only need to have that stage body for 12 hours! To get there you need to LET GO and push hard! Leave analyzing your body to the pictures you send your coach. The photos say everything and your coach can read them clearly. Trust them and their process. That is why you hired them.

2.  You are going to feel fatigued and exhausted!

These are actually good signs that your body is working hard and your diet is tight. Embrace this and try to accommodate for it. Cut back on your social engagements right now to maintain your balance and conserve some energy for your next workout.

My last prep I tried dating someone and totally burned myself    out! Concentrate on the things in your life that you need to:

Your Kids,  Your Job,  Your Prep!

Yes, in that order! If you are in a relationship or married make sure that you talk to that person about what is involved and prepare for it:) You WILL need them to help push, encourage and support you!

Sorry guys! But if you need to work on your relationship then work on that BEFORE preping for a show. A prep WILL bring out the worse in things at some point.

3.  Take the time to Build your body by incorporating weights!

My first show was ALL diet and cardio and I looked frail.  Muscle will burn fat for you and make your body look healthier.  Also, leaning out will be easier when you build up your body!

Finally, check out my video blog about “How to eat the same foods” for diet advice.

When it gets hard, remind yourself why you took on this challenge in the first place!
