It is Sunday night and I sit here thinking about how I indulged in every possible opportunity this past weekend. I stayed up late, didn’t work out today, and literally ate a months worth of calories in 2 days. And not the clean calories either! Pie, cake, ice-cream, the stuff they call sushi but it is just deep-fried bread smothered in some “special” mayo sauce.
But, you know what?! I am not all freaked out about it. So many times I would stress over what I did and only end up grabbing the chips and salsa and plopping my butt on the couch all pissed-off at myself (mmm chips).
Not this time! This time, I am sitting here thinking about how much fun I had! How I enjoyed every opportunity I was given to it’s fullest.
The word “diet” gets thrown around so much that it is almost a bad word. Yes, we all dieted at one time or another. But, our lives should not be a constant diet. A diet is like a sprint, it is a “short” goal to get to a specific point. Once you get to that point, we now need to “Jog” to maintain it.
The “Jog” is what we learn to adapt as our lifestyle. We find cadence with balancing exercise and a healthy foods. We learn to like the foods we know are good for us and get used to cooking with them in various ways. We look forward to working out. We have a routine that we do without thinking anymore: I drop my son off at school and go straight the StairMaster, like a zombie. A change to this plan and I end up walking in circles confused.
Now even with a jog, we need to rest. These rest breaks are just that, a quick break before we start to jog again.
That was what I had this past weekend, a quick 2 day break. Sure I am bloated and the scale probably would show it (if I got on it). However, I am also relaxed and comfortable. I needed a break to reset so I have the energy to begin to jog again.
Remember to not focus so closely on the things you have already done but rather embrace those that you are about to do. Look around when you are jogging so you don’t miss the scenery. This is our life, let’s live it!
